Welcome to Year 2
Converting
Your teachers are Miss May and Miss Malone!
This letter contains some key information as you enter year 2.
What shall I bring to school?
Please bring a water bottle every day! There is no need to bring a PE kit, just wear PE clothes on your PE day. Please don’t bring toys. You can bring fruit for snack time!
When is my PE day?
Both year two classes will have PE indoors on a Wednesday and outdoors on a Thursday. Wear your PE clothes to school on these days and remember your water bottle! During the winter months, bring lots of layers and warm clothes.
What about reading books?
Reading books are changed every Friday so please make sure you have your bag. Each child will have 2 books. One of these will be a decodable book that the children can read independently. We use these books to support children in developing fluency in reading (so they don't need to sound out lots of words), so we encourage them to read them at least 3 times. They can hear themselves as a reader this way. The other book children will bring home will be a picture book or non fiction book they have chosen for interest. Children are not expected to read this independently; this book is to share and enjoy with an adult or older sibling.
What will I be learning about in year 2?
This term we will be starting with a wonderful book called ‘Grendel’ by David Lucas. Our writing and art will be based around this book and we will be creating our own picture books!
We will of course be doing maths, phonics, science and everything in between.
As always, we are happy to answer questions, so feel free to come and find us at the end of the day!
Kind Regards,
The Year 2 team.
Introducing Seesaw our learning platform.
Your child will be coming home with an invitation to join a new learning platform, Seesaw.
Please click below to be taken to the site.

Seesaw is an online learning platform that is accessible from most electronic devices connected to the internet and addresses some of the issues gathered from our parent feedback from the lockdown :
· Printing – worksheets not great - seesaw allows children to edit and adapt worksheets on their devices and submit.
· Access - some only could use tablets/phones - Seesaw is accessible from most devices.
Over the next few weeks we will be showing the children how to use the new platform in the event of any further lockdowns to help us to improve the delivery of our remote learning.
