'Let’s Connect!' Community day at Fairlight!
It's officially Children's Mental Health week 9th-15th February 2026.
The theme for Children's Mental Health Week 2026 is 'This is My Place', and our aim is to support the systems around children and young people to help them feel they belong.
As you know, it has never been more important to support our pupils' mental health and wellbeing. In keeping with this year's theme, Fairlight will be hosting ‘Let’s Connect!’ Community day on Wednesday 11th February to do just this!
‘Let’s Connect!’ Community day at Fairlight, is about encouraging our children to make healthy, rewarding and meaningful connections.
We know that people thrive in communities and this connection and feeling of belonging is vital for our wellbeing.
When we have healthy connections and a sense of belonging – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing; something which we are keen to promote at Fairlight.
The School Council has been working closely with Miss Rodrigues and has shared their ideas for the ‘Let’s Connect’ event. These include the activities they will take part in on the day, a carefully chosen (and very specific!) playlist of feel-good and uplifting songs and the concept behind “Dress to Express.”
The day itself will involve a variety of exciting and enriching experiences for our pupils to enjoy. Everyone will be off the **normal school timetable** in what we hope to be a memorable and unforgettable day!
On this day, we will be asking everyone to, ‘Dress to Express!’ This might be by wearing a range of colours or creating a unique outfit to express how you’re feeling. It can be as simple or elaborate as you like. Dress to express is an opportunity for self-expression.
We would love to invite you to kick the day off in style by joining us for an extended ‘Wake ‘n’ Shake!’ in the playground at 8.45am.
**Due to changes in the timetable the school dinners offered this day will be as follows:
- · Meat option: Roast Chicken baguette
- · Vegetarian option: Roast Quorn baguette
- · Jacket potato with tuna mayo.
LETS CONNECT 2023
Let’s Connect Community day at Fairlight!
You may have seen that ITV has recently launched a mental wellness campaign (based on studies with the NHS) called, “Let’s get Britain talking - a different kind of homework.”
The aim is to encourage adults to connect and improve the quality of mental health and well-being among children.
Therefore, Fairlight hosted ‘Let’s Connect!’ Community day to do just this!
‘Let’s Connect!’ was about encouraging our children to make healthy, rewarding and meaningful connections across the school.
We asked everyone to come in and, ‘Dress to Express!’.
This meant that everyone could come in dressed in whatever they wanted; it was an opportunity for self-expression.
The morning kicked off in style with pupils, parents and staff who participated in ‘Wake ‘n’ Shake!’ in the playground.
Luckily, the weather was on our side, which meant we could bust out our best (some might say worst!) dance moves.
The day itself involved a variety of exciting and enriching experiences for our pupils to enjoy.
There were a whole host of activities such as:
- Forest School (fire lighting and making ash cakes);
- photography (looking at creative forced perspectives);
- cooking fruit crumbles;
- pin badge making;
- mad science experiments;
- drama;
- manga drawing;
- nature collages;
- playground games;
- pebble pets and stone homes;
- board games
- boom wackers and bells!
We even got the chance for the whole school to share playtime together – something we have never done before.
A great day was had by all and we were exhausted from all the learning and fun we had!
Feedback from the day has been compiled from pupils, parents and staff and is below.
FEEDBACK FROM LET'S CONNECT 2023
PUPIL FEEDBACK
I'd say all the activities were best in my opinion, because I never get to do anything like that ever - at home, at school or in clubs.
