Fairlight Primary & Nursery School

Every individual child achieves

   Welcome to Year 3

Miss Blankson and Miss White

are very excited about teaching Year 3 this year.

Here is some key information:

What do children need to bring to school?

Please bring a named water bottle every day! There is no need to bring a PE kit, children can just wear PE clothes on their PE day. Please don’t bring toys. Children can bring a healthy snack such as a piece of fruit to eat at playtime. If you would like your child to have milk, please contact the office.

When are the PE Days?

Year 3 PE lessons will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Children need to wear their PE kit to school on Mondays and Wednesdays. Children can wear shorts or leggings or tracksuit bottoms, a t-shirt, polo shirt or other suitable top, trainers or plimsols. As the weather gets colder children may need warmer clothes such as a tracksuit top and bottoms or a hoodie.

How can I support my child at home?

In year 3 we ask children to try to read every day. This is really important as becoming a confident reader helps children with their learning in all areas of the curriculum. Some children may still benefit from re-reading the same book to an adult as this helps them to develop fluency. Children who are independent readers still benefit from reading with or to an adult and talking about what they have read. Asking children questions about what they are reading helps check their understanding of vocabulary, story events and characters.

Ask me about sheets

Every Friday there will be a new ‘Ask me about sheet’, you can find this on seesaw.  This will have spellings and prompts for you to discuss your child’s learning each week. It will also have notices for parents if needed.

Below are links to other online learning resources and games which children can access at home. Children have been given individual passwords for Purple Mash, Sum Dog and Times Table Rockstars. Please ask if you need these to be sent home again or emailed.

What will my child be learning about?

We learn about some fantastic topics in year 3 including the Stone Age, India and Ancient Egypt. Please see the Curriculum by Term page for more information detail on what the children will be learning about this term.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Introducing Seesaw our learning platform.

Your child will be coming home with an invitation to join a new learning platform, Seesaw.

Please click below to be taken to the site.

Seesaw is an online learning platform that is accessible from most electronic devices connected to the internet and addresses some of the issues gathered from our parent feedback from the lockdown :

· Printing – worksheets not great - seesaw allows children to edit and adapt worksheets on their devices and submit.

· Access - some only could use tablets/phones - Seesaw is accessible from most devices.

Over the next few weeks we will be showing the children how to use the new platform in the event of any further lockdowns to help us to improve the delivery of our remote learning.
