Weekly Update 2022

SUMMER TERM 1 WEEK 3

Where to start this week.

An amazing Children's Parade on Saturday- with Fairlight once again showing everyone how to take it to the next level.

Followed by our Year 6 children having a week of SATS tests

CHILDREN'S PARADE

What an amazing day and so nice to be back taking part in the Children's Parade.

We are still being sent photos and videos and these will all be placed on our Children's Parade page https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/beyond-the-classroom/childrens-parade-2021

FORMER PUPIL ALERT

It is always good to hear about the exploits of former Fairlight pupils.

At the parade we managed to see and speak to some as well as their parents.

This is however some information about Liam who used to attend Fairlight and the amazing work he is doing.

YEAR 6 SATS WEEK AND APPRENTICE LAUNCH

Our amazing Year 6 children have this week completed their Key Stage 2 SATS.

For many this is their first experience of a formal test and formal testing situation.

They have all taken it in their stride.

And now they move on the large amount of other learning opportunities that they still have at Fairlight.

This includes the launch on Friday 13th May 2022 at 9.36am of the Year 6 Apprentice.

Lord Jordan has spoken to Year 6 and set Task #1- which is to find Task #2 and for Year 6 to start earning or losing Apprentice Points https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/in-the-classroom/year-groups/year-2-1-1/y6-the-apprentice-2022

FAIRLIGHT GOLF TEAM SMASHED IT

Yes you have read that correctly. We have a Golf Team

They took part in a Golf Tournament recently in Hove.

The team were a credit to the school and came away as the TEAMWORK CHAMPIONS on the day.

Well done to them all.

SUMMER CHILDCARE

Don't leave it late if you are looking for childcare at Half Term or the Summer Holidays as places are booking up fast https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/beyond-the-classroom/before-and-after-school-clubs/winter-holiday-activities-and-food-haf

Contact Pioneer now for more information.

We will also be contacting parents whose children are on Free School Meals with some exciting FREE opportunities also.

GOVERNORS WANTED

We need a couple of new Governors at the school.

This could be for a parent at the school but also from someone (a grandparent or friend for example) who may be able to take on this role.

Please have a read of our Governor page https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/head-teachers-office/governors and the links to find out more. https://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/jobs/volunteering/become-school-governor

If you are interested or would like to find out more or to speak to a Governor then please speak to Mr. Jordan.

TRIPS HAVE STARTED- HOWEVER NEED YOU TO MAKE A PAYMENT IF YOU CAN

Different year groups have started going on trips in the last few weeks.

This does however require us to ask for a contribution from parents.

The school used to be able to help subsidise for large amounts of missing money when parents couldn't or didn't pay.

With even tighter budgets this is no longer possible and we need as many parents to make a contribution as they can afford.

We will sadly have to consider if a trip can in fact go ahead if we do not get enough parents paying.

This decision will however need to be made a while before the trip as we will need to cancel the venue and transport.

WE STILL NEED PLAYGROUND RESOURCES

Our Play Team have asked for the following resources:

  • Cushions
  • Beanbags
  • Dressing up clothes

Outdoor paint to give the sheds a touch up- and if the paint came with a painter that wanted to paint the sheds that would be even better.

Please bring this to the office and we will ensure it finds a new home.

ATTENDANCE LETTERS HAVE BEEN SENT THIS WEEK

We follow the Attendance Guidance given by the Department for Education and Local Authority.

This includes thresholds for what constitutes good and poor attendance.

Sadly we have had to send a number of Attendance letters home this week to parents whose children have fallen below these levels.

90% attendance for example may sound good however this means that your child has missed 19 days off school in a school year. If you were to think about that in work terms- that is more absence then you would be allowed in a job.

We however have some children who have 80% attendance- that is nearly 40 days off school in a school year- over a month and a half. If attendance is 70% that is almost 2 months off school.

Of course we discuss the reasons behind absence however we cannot often make up for this huge amount of time not in school not learning.

NO SMOKING OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL- ACROSS THE ROAD TO BE EXACT

We are having to consider using school money to install a bin (or giant ashtray) across the road from the school due to the large amount of cigarette ends that have been left on the floor. The poor people who live in the houses opposite school have to walk daily through this mess to leave their house. And several have young children.

Please can I remind you that firstly we would ask that you do not smoke outside the school gate. Secondly we would also ask that you do not litter outside the school gate.

The community Action Team have informed us that they would be happy to come and issue fines for anyone seen littering outside school.

This is just a few days worth
