Literacy

Thursday 2nd April

Phonics-see attached overview below for all weeks this half term.

  • Quick warm-up (if you have online access): https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/flashcards-speed-trials (this website is currently free - log in using the username: march20 and password: home.  Select phase 3 or above to practise.  And/or, play ‘Tricky Word Trucks’: https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/tricky-word-trucks (select from Phase 4, 5 or 5a.  If finding tricky, try Phase 2 or 3).
  • Recap: ear (e.g.beard, steer, pier, interfere).
  • Introduce alternative spellings for Alternative spellings for: 

    v   

    Explain that we can spell v in different ways (e.g. have, calves, vixen).  Play ‘Quick Write’ where you give children one word at a time and challenge them to see how many times they can write it down in one minute.  Select from the following words: van, leaves, have, vet, violin, above, vase, live, curve, love, vote.  Children could practise words on their ‘phonics fist’ (they can explain how to do this).
  • Practise reading the words:  when, what, out, Mr and Mrs.  Maybe make a sentence up for each word.

Literacy- Fairy tales

Thursday 2nd April

Draw a picture of your favourite part of the story.

Can you write some speech bubbles for the characters?

What will they say? 

If you wish to use the speech bubbles resource below, please ask your adult to draw some wide lines for your writing. 

Tuesday 31 st March

Read Red Riding Hood (see powerpoint below).

Talk about the story, Can you identify the main events in the story?

What happens in the beginning, middle and end of the story?

Maths

Thursday 2nd April

  • Count on in twos - use paper number square/numberline sent home or, alternatively, use a tin and 2 pence coins to drop the money and count in twos. 
  • Quick practice of number bonds of 10 (1+9, 2+8, 3+7, etc).  Can use link for online version:  http://www.ictgames.com/saveTheWhale/ The children have played this lots in class and know how to play it!
  • Count in twos and fives- refer to the 100 square to show children what patterns they may spot by counting in twos and fives.

  • What does the pattern look like? You can use colouring pencils to see the pattern on the paper or play games orally and/or use some resources below.

Tuesday 31st  March

  1. Add and subtract 0, 1 and 2 -eg choose a number 12 add 1 =13 use paper number square/numberline sent home or, alternatively, use the one in resources section below.
  2. Quick practise of number bonds of 10 (1+9, 2+8, 3+7, etc).  Can use link for online version:  http://www.ictgames.com/saveTheWhale/ The children have played this lots in class and know how to play it!
  3. Place value (within 50) (REVISION) - One more and one less. Choose  a number eg 23. Add 1=24. Remind children of what will happen when you add 1 to a number like 29 =30. Ask children about the tens and units/ones. refer to the 100 square to show children what more and one less looks like. You can play games orally and/or write  a few sums down

  • How do we plant a seed in a pot?
