Thursday 4th June

Phonics

Monday 1st June

Phonics

Thursday 28th May-

Phonics

Teach alternative spellings for the o phoneme (e.g. hot, on, was, swan, whatever, swamp, wash)

  • Practise segmenting (splitting words up into individual sounds) and blending (combining the sounds to read the word).  You could write the words on bits of paper and show the sound buttons using your phonics fist.
  • Practice tricky words  their, people, looked, called-try writing them out as many times as you can in one minute or using them in a sentence

 Monday 25th May-

Phonics

Thursday 21st May

Phonics

  • Quick warm-up (if you have online access).  NOTE, you need to be logged in to website first before clicking link below.  First, go to https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk and log in using the username: march20and password: home.  Then click on this link to play game: https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/flashcards-speed-trials Select phase 5.
  • And/or, play ‘Tricky Word Trucks’: https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/tricky-word-trucks (select from Phase 4, 5 or 5a.  If finding tricky, try Phase 2 or 3).
  • Recap alternative spellings for the phoneme i (e.g. drill, mystery, crystal, squid, thrill, still, winning, gym, myth, lyric).  Write the words on paper and identify the short vowel i (represented by i and y.  If time, practise segmenting (splitting words up into individual sounds) and blending (combining the sounds to read the word).  You could write the words on bits of paper and show the sound buttons using your phonics fist.
  • Read the tricky words: asked, could, would, should, their, people, looked and called. Identify the tricky parts of each word (underlined) and explain that the spelling of the tricky bits can make it hard if we try to sound the words out - so we need to learn to read them.  Practise writing each word. You could turn it into a game and see how many times they can write each word in one minute. If time, finish by saying a sentence with each word in. Make it fun and say some silly sentences!

Maths

Thursday 4th June

STARTERS:

  • RECAP: Choose a number between 1-20 (or up to 50 if your child seems confident) and add 1 or subtract 1 so eg I chose 12, 12 add 1 is 13. 12 subtract 1 is 11.  Use number square or number line in resources section below if support is needed with looking at numbers.
  • https://www.topmarks.co.uk/addition/robot-addition addition game on Topmarks-see which numbers your child seems confident with and try the level that challenges them

MAIN ACTIVITY:

For Thursday and Friday follow the link to the lessons. This week is based around measuring so any opportunities to do this practically in the kitchen would be fun.  Maybe a little baking with the children measuring the ingredients.  This would also be a great opportunity to look at timings and looking at a clock face.  https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1

See lesson 4 worksheet below.

Curriculum

Science- On-going - please see purple mash tasks, our science topic is still plants and growing.

Monday 18th May/Thursday 21st May

Please continue with shoebox challenge below. We are looking forward to seeing your creative designs!

Monday 4th May

Continue to work on the suggested activities below.

CREATIVE CHALLENGE: We would like you to use what you have learnt about plants to create your own shoebox secret garden!  This can be an on-going project for the next couple of weeks.  You could either use what you know about plants to make your own realistic garden or be creative and design your own plants.  Be as creative as you want using whatever resources or materials you have at home!  If you would like to write about your design, you could write some sentences to go with it explaining what is growing (and living!) in your garden.  You will need any good-sized box (shoebox is ideal) to build your garden in.  It would be great to see photos of your designs.  Email them to: workathome@fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk GOOD LUCK!!!  Here are some ideas to get you started...
